Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated Junior Geotechnical Engineer to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will support senior engineers in conducting site investigations, soil and rock analysis, and providing geotechnical recommendations for civil, structural, and infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career engineer to gain hands-on experience in field and office-based geotechnical work.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and executing geotechnical site investigations, including borehole drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing (SPT, CPT, vane shear, etc.).
- Perform laboratory tests on soil and rock samples (classification, compaction, shear strength, consolidation, permeability).
- Interpret field and lab data to support the preparation of geotechnical reports.
- Conduct slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, and foundation analyses using software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, Settle3, or Slide.
- Prepare engineering drawings, logs, and cross-sections using AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
- Support the design of shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls, earthworks, and ground improvement solutions.
- Conduct site supervision during construction and monitor instrumentation (inclinometers, piezometers, settlement plates).
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards (Eurocode 7, ASTM, BS, local geotechnical standards).
- Collaborate with structural, civil, and environmental engineers on multidisciplinary projects.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, calculations, and quality records.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or related field.
- 0–3 years of relevant experience (internships and academic projects considered).
- Basic understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering principles.
- Familiarity with geotechnical software (PLAXIS, GeoStudio, Slide, Settle3) and CAD tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
- Willingness to travel and work on construction sites when required.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of GIS tools (QGIS, ArcGIS).
- Experience with programming or scripting (Python, MATLAB) for data analysis.
- Familiarity with BIM workflows.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward professional licensure.
Personal Attributes
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Eager to learn and develop technically under senior mentorship.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a project environment.
